The state has started implementing a plan to develop the areas of historic and Islamic Cairo, including the areas of Al-Darb Al-Ahmar, Al-Gamaliyah and Al-Hussein, and the areas of the Khalifa neighborhood, which include a large number of Islamic monuments and heritage buildings, as part of a plan to restore the civilized splendor of the capital and maximize the use of these areas.

Revitalization of heritage buildings

The Historic Cairo development project includes the revival of valuable heritage buildings and their re-use to integrate them into the historical urban fabric, and the rehabilitation of buildings of good and medium condition to improve the urban character, with a study of the possibility of changing the uses of vacant and ruined areas and buildings in a deteriorated state of no value, according to the needs required to complete The urban fabric, as well as upgrading the open and public spaces, and the paths of movement and pedestrians.

Using old photos to rebuild ruined areas

According to the government's plan, it is scheduled to rebuild all the "ruined areas" and return them to their previous era, through the use and compilation of the original images of the monuments that need restoration, which were photographed hundreds of years ago by those interested in antiquities, as well as the collection of maps of the fabric. construction of the area so that it can be reconstructed again.
